Roy Cooper for North Carolina
This week in Washington we are writing to endore Roy Cooper to the United States Senate for North Carolina. Born and raised in Nash County, North Carolina he spent his summers working on a farm before earning an undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The father of 3 daughters Roy practiced law in Rocky Mount, North Carolina before ascending to the Governor's Office. His mother taught public school which cemented his commitment to making an affordable education accessible to all. Driven by faith, Roy taught Sunday School while also tutoring students in local public schools. Cooper entered public service after being elected to the state legislature where he worked to increase teacher pay and strengthen law enforcement.
In the state legislature, Roy wrote North Carolina's first children's health initiative. North Carolinans liked what they saw in the state legislator and elected Roy to the Attorney General's Office. In office Roy stood up to the Big Banks and the Pharmaceutical Companies because no American should ever go without the life saving health care that they need. Cooper was elected Governor in 2016 and 2020 when Conservatives carried the state in national elections. The Governor succeeded in creating a bipartisan consensus in expanding Medicaid because the health of the American people is second to none. Cooper's reform brought health care to more than 650,000 North Carolinians. Roy enacted a plan to incentivize hospitals to relieve more than $ 4 billion of existing medical debt for 2 million eligbile North Carolinians and prevent new debt.
Cooper focusted on boosting public education, tackling the opiod crises, revitalizing rural communtiies and making sure that North Carolinians have the training to fill the better-paying jobs that require new skills. Cooper passed a bill as Governor increasing teacher pay in public schools for teachers who often have to dig into their pockets to pay for school supplies for their students. Cooper stood up for campaign finance reformas Governor vetoing a consevative bill that would have made campaign finance investigations less public and the Republican State Legislature and senate overrode his veto. During his tenure as Governor Cooper vetoed 28 bills with 23 of them being overrode by the legislature
James Talarico for Texas
This week in Washington we are writing to endorse James Talarico for Texas. As a former teacher James knows ththe power of public education. As a former Presbyterian seminarian he knows the power of the scripture. As a state representative he's led the fight against billionaire mega donors and puppet politicians. Now he's running for United States Senate to take the fight to Washington and win power back for the working Americans that built this country. As a former educator he worked teaching Language Arts at Rhodes Middle School on the westide of San Antonio a beautiful hisotrically Mexican-American neighborhood, one of the poorest zipcodes in Texas. Every Day Jim watched his students struggling to overcome poverty and systems designed to hold them back.
Growing up as an eighth generation Texan he saw his mother making the same fight, a preacher's daughter fromn Laredo. Raised by a single-mom who left home at 19, James knows the meaning of hardship. An abusive father taught James the meaning of family, making a home in East Austin Texas. Talarico first ran for office in 2018 and wom a seat as a state legislator in a deep red district that no one thought he could win. The pundits and politicians did not even know his name, but he had something going strong for him that is buried deep inside of all of us. Hope.
As a member of the Texas Legislature Talarico passed major legislation to fund neighborhood schools, expand job opportunities for young adults, and lower the cost of child care, housing and prescription drugs. Talarico has led the charge against the billionaires that have rigged the system against Texas's working families and is the only member of the Texas State Legislature who has never taken corporate PAC money. As these same billionaires have taken over Washington we need more fighters who will take power back for working families. That's what his mother taught him on the westside of San Antonio. Together, that is what Texans will show the country in 2026.

Jon Ossoff for Georgia
This week in Washington we are writing to endorse Jon Ossoff for United States Senate in Georgia. Jon was born and raised in Atlanta, Jon is a former investigative journalist exposing corruption, including abuse in Georgia's foster care system and mistreatment of military families, injustice in housing and civil rights abuses in the federal prison system. Jon's campaign refuses to accept contributions from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists. Sen. Ossoff has introduced legislation to ban corporate PACs all together and is leading the charge to ban stock trading by Members of Congress, helping pass a Congressional stock ban through a major Senate Committee for the first time.
Senator Ossoff is a champion for working families working to Cap the price of insulin a $ 35 / month. He has worked t strengthn public safety and tackle the opiod epidemic. Ossoff has worked to lower housing prices and delivered record funding for Georgia's Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Senator has expanded mental health care for veternans while expanding and building new health care facilities across the state. Jon has expanded medicaid in Georgia so that no American family has to decide between going to the grocery store and getting a prescription filled. Jon Ossoff has upgraded infrastructure and expanded high speed internet access so that Georgians lead in building the 21st century economy.
Jon Ossoff has been a leader is protecting tele health and mail medication making sure that Georgians are able to access abortion medication despit the Supreme Court's ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. Ossoff has expanded job training programs while attracting thousands of manufacturing jobs to Georgia because it is time to wake this sleeping giant we call our economy equipping the American worker with the tools necessary to compete in a 21st century economy. Jon believes inh porotecting Social Security protecting benefits for public servants. As the leader of an agricultural state Jon has helped Georgia farmers and growers export more Georgia-grown products. Ossoff knows that the U.S. Postal Service, is a lifeline for Seniors Citizens dependent on medication, Women dependent on Mifepristone, Americans waiting for pensions and workers depdending on regular checks in the mail which is why he has worked to hold the post office accountable for quality service from USPS. On Election Day cast a vote for Ossoff for Georgia.
Sherrod Brown for Ohio
Today we proudly endorse Sherrod Brown for United States Senate from the state of Ohio. Sherrod has been a voice for working families and an outspoken champion for universal health care. Born and raised in Mansfield, SHerrod saw firsthand how corporations lobbied for tax breaks and bad trade deals shipping Ohio jobs overseas. When Wall Street banks gambled away workers' hard earned pensions, SHerrod led the charge to make sure over 100,000 Ohioans got the resteriment they deserved. When the pharmaceutical companies pushed through price increases, Brown succesfully fought to cap the cost of insulin and reduce the price of other prescription drugs for Ohio seniors. When millions of veterans returning from war were exposed to high toxicity burn pits and were getting turned away by the VA, suffering from severe illnesses like cancer and lung disease, Sherrod worked with Republicans to get them the care that they earned.
Sherrod Brown has been a tireless advocate for the middle and working class. In the Senate, Sherrod went to work for over 2 million former teachers, bus drivers, police officers, firefighters, and other workers so that they could succesfully claim their full Social Security benefits, previously withheld by the federal government. The former Senator has fought for affordable health care, fair wages, worker pensions and consumer protections. According to Sen. Brown, politics "uisn't about left or right but whose side you're on. Washington has OK'd massive tax breaks for corporations and billionaires. Politics isn't about what you say it's about the values that make you who you are. Sherrod drives a Jeep made by union workers in Toledo and lives in Columbus with his wife Connie Schultz.
Sen. Brown has three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and two rescue dogs Franklin and Walter. Sen. Brown has degrees from Yale, undergrad and Ohio State University in public administration and he taught from 1979-1981. In 2022 Brown cast a ballot in favor of the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022. In 2014 Brown sponsored the Gold Star Fathers Act of 2014 expanding civil service preference to the parents of permanenetly disabled veterans or those that are deceased. Sherrod served as a state representative in Ohio from 1974 to 1982, the youngest person to ever win election to that office. In 1982 Brown was elected to the office of Secretary of State fro Ohio, winning re election in 1986. In 1992, Brown was elected to the House of Representatives from Ohio's 13th district, in the suburbs of Cleveland and was reelected six times. He voted against the Defense of Marriage Act that stripped gays of civil and marriage rights all over this nation of ours. Brown served in the United States Senate from 2006 - 2024. We endorse Sherrod Brown for United States Senate without hesitation.
Josh Turek for Iowa
Today we are writing to endorse Josh Turek for United States Senate. Turek is no stranger to tough fights, he is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist for Team USA and a State Legislator representing the reddest seat held by a Democrat in the state of Iowa. Born with spina bifida, after his father was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam, Josh overcame 21 surgeries by the age of 12 to grow up to represent America at four Paralympic Games. After earning a gold medal in Tokyo in 2021, Josh ran to represent his home town of Council Bluffs in the Iowa Legislature. Josh pushed his chair up hills and crawled up stairs to talk to Iowans. After winning his seat, he was re-elected by 5 points in a district Trump won by 8 points, developing a reputation as a commmon-sense, bipartisan legislator.
Josh is running for United States Senate from Iowa because he believes the country should prioritize the values of the working and middle class not Wall Street and billionaires. Turek is a strong supporter of public schools and is a vocal opponent of school vouchers. Josh is an advocate for reforming Iowa's broken health care system. A champion of environmental protection, he believes in clean air, clean water and safe foods. Turek worked as Director of the Ryan Martin Foundation providing disabled children with the opportunity to play sports for free. He worked with patients and doctors at a wheel chair and mobility assistance company, to provide mobility devices and complex rehab technology to people with disabilities. Josh has witnessed first hand how our health care system can at times fail the most vulnerable among us.
Turek is a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs and graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University Turek is running because Iowans are struggling to afford housing, health care, medication and groceries. He was born into a working class family that got their clothes from Goodwill and relied on free summer lunch programs. As a state legislator Josh strengthened the Veterans Homestead Tax Credit making sure our Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers and Marines get the welcome home they deserve. Josh sponsored legislation to cut taxes for first time home buyers putting dollars back in Iowa pockets as Americans realize the dream of home ownership. Turek sponsored bills to raise the minimum wage and protect workers right to organize. In the United States Senate, Josh will fight to close corporate tax loopholes for corporations and billionaires, crack down on price gouging at grocery stores, protect small family farms by banning Wall Street from purchasing farm land. Josh will fight for affordable prescription drugs, invest in job training, build more housing, protect Food Stamps, lower the cost of child care and help each of us to achieve the American Dream. Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan
Today August 5th, we celebrate not a victory of one wing of a political party but a vote for the unending freedom of man. The ballots have been counted and we have a nominee for the United States Senate from the state of Michigan. An Epidemiologist, El-Sayed served as the Director of the Department of Health, Human, and Veteran's Services of Wayne County from 2023 to 2025. He knows that affordable healthcare is a life and death policy and he will care for our nation's most precious resource, our nation's 18 million military veterans. Abdul favors Medicare-for-All because he studied to be a doctor and he has seen first hand the glaring inequalities in our nation's healthcare system, he knows that healthcare expenditures affect Senior Citizens disproportionately and he will care for our nation's Seniors.
In his time at Wayne County DHHVS, Sayed showed what it means to roll-up his sleeves and go to work, securing free eyeglasses for the children of Michigan, because he knows that Education begins with healthy children, he removed lead from Detroit's elementary schools, protecting our Environment by taking on Michigan's biggest polluters. Abdul partnered with law enforcement making life-saving Narcan universally accessible. Sayed spearheaded a program to cancel $ 700 million in medical debt for 300,000 Michiganders over 2 years, because healthcare is a human right, not just an expensive privilege accessible only to the rich. No American should drown in debt for seeking medical assistance and Sayed as a doctor has witnessed the glaring inequalities of our health care system firsthand.
Sayed was born and raised in Michigan, and understands the imnportance of Education, having attended Michigan public schools. He served as the captain of his high school football team and served as a wrestler, so we know he's ready to take on the tough fights in Washington. He understands the importance of a sound immigration policy because his father is an Egyptian immigrant. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he wants to make the opportunity of a college education available to all, by restoring the Department of Education to it's rightful place among the cabinet level departments of the United States. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University, on an NIH scholarship and has seen firsthand the impact that public investment in Education can have. Abdul is married with two children and is a card-carrying Union member of SEIU Local 500 and understands the conversations taking place around kitchen tables across America. He believes in building an economy that works for everyone, and that starts with protecting an economy that keeps union jobs here in the United States not shipping them overseas and will make that a centerpiece of a new economy that works for unions and blue collar households. Troy Jackson for Maine
Today we are writing to endorse Troy Jackson for United States Senate from the State of Maine. A fifth-generation logger from the town of Allagash, in Aroostook County, Troy is ready to flip Maine's Senate seat. While Troy was born into poverty, his 16-year-old mother was rich in spirit. When Troy was in 7th grade, he saw his first strike. His father and fellow loggers were asking for a fair shake for the working man. When Troy grew up, he followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a logger, working 80-hour work weeks in the forests, running equipment, driving trucks and cutting wood to make ends meet. Troy went on strike with his fellow loggers for higher wages and safer working conditions and learned that it takes large scale systemic change to make the work place secure and earn higher wages.
Troy Jackson brings his lived experience as a working man to politics. His first contest was for the Maine State Legislature where he worked for 6 years, earning the trust of friends and neighbors, conservatives and liberals alike. In the State Legislature and later the State Senate, he fought hard to successfully lower prescription drug prices, so that every American has access to a world class health care system. Jackson passed universal school meals so that no child knows hunger whatever their economic background, especially during the summer months. Troy stayed true to his roots protecting union jobs. He expanded rural health care, so that the quality of your healthcare doesn't depend on your ZIP code or the State that you come from. Troy delivered property tax relief, so that Senior Citizens retiring can keep their savings and can tap the equity in their homes without finding themselves unable to balance their budgets, when sitting around the kitchen table.
Troy Jackson is a fighter and a champion for abortion rights because no women should live in a country that returns to back-alley abortions, recognizing that family planning is critical to reproductive rights. Troy is a hero of the environment movement, because our forests and wilderness areas are a public trust that must be preserved for future generations. The Majority Leader is a graduate of University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2000, lives in Allagash with his partner Lana and has two grown sons. Jackson is endorsed by AFL-CIO Maine, United Auto Workers, Teamsters Local 340, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 567 and Local 104, Communication Workers of America Local 1400, Laborer's International Union of North America - Local 327 & 976. Mary Peltola for Alaska
Today we are writing to endorse Mary Peltola for Alaska. We know Mary in Alaska, she raised 7 children with her husband Buzzy. She learned life's lessons fishing in Kuskokwin where she grew up, attending fish camp. When she grew up, Alaska was a place of abundance, but now the salmon, large game, and migratory birds that use to fill freezers are difficult to come by, and groceries have crushing prices. In Alaska it costs $ 17 for a gallon of milk throughout the state and in Indian Country. Unfortunately, politicians in D.C. are more focused on their stock portfolios than the grocery bill of every day Alaskans.
The Alaska delegation under Ted Stevens and Don Young use to stand for something, they ignored partisanship to fight for reforms in public media and disaster relief, because rural Alaska depends on them. With time that independence has faded. Mary Peltola will fight for fish, family and freedom for Alaska. She is proposing term limits for Senators because it's time for a change, for fresh leadership to shake things up in Washington. Systemic change is the best way to bring down grocery costs, ban factory trawling, lower energy & health care costs, and build new housing Alaskans can afford. Systemic change is the only way to fill homes with abundance.
As a former judge on the Orutsaramiut Native Council tribal court, and Congressional Representative, Mary has the experience necessary to bring change to the way Washington works. Mary served in the Alaska State Legislature, Kuskikwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, and on the Bethel City Council. Peltola is the first Alaskan-Indian Member of Congress, the first woman to represent Alaska in Washington, and the first Native born Alaskan elected to the House. Mary is Yup'ik from Yukon-Kuskokwin Delta, and was born in Anchorage, Aug. 31st, 1973. Her father was a pilot and a teacher, and her mother was from Kwethluk. In 2004, Peltola fought No Child Left Behind rules that would hinder the administrative practice of testing in Western Alaskan schools in the native Yupik language. Peltola authored a law to exempt school teachers from jury duty if they work at under performing schools. The hymns and prayers of every day Alaskans have reached ears in Congress, and it is time to send a message to Washington.
