Roy Cooper for North Carolina

This week in Washington we are writing to endore Roy Cooper to the United States Senate for North Carolina. Born and raised in Nash County, North Carolina he spent his summers working on a farm before earning an undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The father of 3 daughters Roy practiced law in Rocky Mount, North Carolina before ascending to the Governor's Office. His mother taught public school which cemented his commitment to making an affordable education accessible to all. Driven by faith, Roy taught Sunday School while also tutoring students in local public schools. Cooper entered public service after being elected to the state legislature where he worked to increase teacher pay and strengthen law enforcement.

In the state legislature, Roy wrote North Carolina's first children's health initiative. North Carolinans liked what they saw in the state legislator and elected Roy to the Attorney General's Office. In office Roy stood up to the Big Banks and the Pharmaceutical Companies because no American should ever go without the life saving health care that they need. Cooper was elected Governor in 2016 and 2020 when Conservatives carried the state in national elections. The Governor succeeded in creating a bipartisan consensus in expanding Medicaid because the health of the American people is second to none. Cooper's reform  brought health care to more than 650,000 North Carolinians. Roy enacted a plan to incentivize hospitals to relieve more than $ 4 billion of existing medical debt for 2 million eligbile North Carolinians and prevent new debt. 

Cooper focusted on boosting public education, tackling the opiod crises, revitalizing rural communtiies and making sure that North Carolinians have the training to fill the better-paying jobs that require new skills. Cooper passed a bill as Governor increasing teacher pay in public schools for teachers who often have to dig into their pockets to pay for school supplies for their students. Cooper stood up for campaign finance reformas Governor vetoing a consevative bill that would have made campaign finance investigations less public and the Republican State Legislature and senate overrode his veto. During his tenure as Governor Cooper vetoed 28 bills with 23 of them being overrode by the legislature         

James Talarico for Texas 

This week in Washington we are writing to endorse James Talarico for Texas. As a former teacher James knows ththe power of public education. As a former Presbyterian seminarian he knows the power of the scripture. As a state representative he's led the fight against billionaire mega donors and puppet politicians. Now he's running  for United States Senate to take the fight to Washington and win power back for the working Americans that built this country. As a former educator he worked teaching Language Arts at Rhodes Middle School on the westide of San Antonio a beautiful hisotrically Mexican-American neighborhood, one of the poorest zipcodes in Texas. Every Day Jim watched his students struggling to overcome poverty and systems designed to hold them back.

Growing up as an eighth generation Texan he saw his mother making the same fight, a preacher's daughter fromn Laredo. Raised by a single-mom who left home at 19, James knows the meaning of hardship. An abusive father  taught James the meaning of family, making a home in East Austin Texas. Talarico first ran for office in 2018 and wom a seat as a state legislator in a deep red district that no one thought he could win. The pundits and politicians did not even know his name, but he had something going strong for him that is buried deep inside of all of us. Hope.

As a member of the Texas Legislature Talarico passed major legislation to fund neighborhood schools, expand job opportunities for young adults, and lower the cost of child care, housing and prescription drugs. Talarico has led the charge against the billionaires that have rigged the system against Texas's working families and is the only member of the Texas State Legislature who has never taken corporate PAC money. As these same billionaires have taken over Washington we need more fighters who will take power back for working families. That's what his mother taught him on the westside of San Antonio. Together, that is what Texans will show the country in 2026.

Sherrod Brown for Ohio

Today we proudly endorse Sherrod Brown for United States Senate from the state of Ohio. Sherrod has been a voice for working families and an outspoken champion for universal health care. Born and raised in Mansfield, SHerrod saw firsthand how corporations lobbied for tax breaks and bad trade deals shipping Ohio jobs overseas. When Wall Street banks gambled away  workers' hard earned pensions, SHerrod led the charge to make sure over 100,000 Ohioans got the resteriment they deserved. When the pharmaceutical companies pushed through price increases, Brown succesfully fought to cap  the cost of insulin  and reduce the price of other prescription drugs for Ohio seniors. When millions of veterans returning from war were exposed to high toxicity burn pits and were getting turned away by the VA, suffering from severe illnesses like cancer and lung disease, Sherrod worked with Republicans to get them the care that they earned.

Sherrod Brown has been a tireless advocate for the middle and working class. In the Senate, Sherrod went to work for over 2 million former teachers, bus drivers, police officers, firefighters, and other workers so that they could succesfully claim their full Social Security  benefits, previously withheld by the federal government. The former Senator has fought for affordable health care, fair wages, worker pensions and consumer protections. According to Sen. Brown, politics "uisn't about left or right but whose side you're on. Washington has OK'd massive tax breaks for corporations and billionaires. Politics isn't about what you say it's about the values that make you who you are. Sherrod drives a Jeep made by union workers in Toledo and lives in Columbus with his wife Connie Schultz.

Sen. Brown has three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and two rescue dogs Franklin and Walter. Sen. Brown has degrees from Yale, undergrad and Ohio State University in public administration and he taught from 1979-1981. In 2022 Brown cast a ballot in favor of the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022. In 2014 Brown  sponsored the Gold Star Fathers Act of 2014 expanding civil service preference to the parents of permanenetly disabled veterans or those that are deceased. Sherrod served as a state representative in Ohio  from 1974 to 1982, the youngest person to ever win election to that office. In 1982 Brown was elected to the office of Secretary of State fro Ohio, winning re election in 1986. In 1992, Brown was elected to the House of Representatives from Ohio's 13th district, in the suburbs of Cleveland and was reelected six times. He voted against the Defense of Marriage Act that stripped gays of civil and marriage rights all over this nation of ours. Brown served in the United States Senate from 2006 - 2024. We endorse Sherrod Brown for United States Senate without hesitation.  

  

Josh Turek for Iowa

Today we are writing to endorse Josh Turek for United States Senate. Turek is no stranger to tough fights, he is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist for Team USA and a State Legislator representing the reddest seat held by a Democrat in the state of Iowa. Born with spina bifida, after his father was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam, Josh overcame 21 surgeries by the age of 12 to grow up to represent America at four Paralympic Games. After earning a gold medal in Tokyo in 2021, Josh ran to represent his home town of Council Bluffs in the Iowa Legislature. Josh pushed his chair up hills and crawled up stairs to talk to Iowans. After winning his seat, he was re-elected by 5 points in a district Trump won by 8 points, developing a reputation as a commmon-sense, bipartisan legislator.

Josh is running for United States Senate from Iowa because he believes the country should prioritize the values of the working and middle class not Wall Street and billionaires. Turek is a strong supporter of public schools and is a vocal opponent of school vouchers. Josh is an advocate for reforming Iowa's broken health care system. A champion of environmental protection, he believes in clean air, clean water and safe foods. Turek worked as Director of the Ryan Martin Foundation providing disabled children with the opportunity to play sports for free. He worked with patients and doctors at a wheel chair and mobility assistance company, to provide mobility devices and complex rehab technology to people with disabilities. Josh has witnessed first hand how our health care system can at times fail the most vulnerable among us. 

Turek is a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs and graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University Turek is running because Iowans are struggling to afford housing, health care, medication and groceries. He was born into a working class family that got their clothes from Goodwill and relied on free summer lunch programs. As a state legislator Josh strengthened the Veterans Homestead Tax Credit making sure our Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers and Marines get the welcome home they deserve. Josh sponsored legislation to cut taxes for first time home buyers putting dollars back in Iowa pockets as Americans realize the dream of home ownership. Turek sponsored bills to raise the minimum wage and protect workers right to organize. In the United States Senate, Josh will fight to close corporate tax loopholes for corporations and billionaires, crack down on price gouging at grocery stores, protect small family farms by banning Wall Street from purchasing farm land. Josh will fight for affordable prescription drugs, invest in job training, build more housing, protect Food Stamps, lower the cost of child care and help each of us to achieve the American Dream. On Tuesday November 3rd let's send a hero to the United States Senate by voting for Josh Turek for Senate. 

 

  

Mary Peltola for Alaska

Today we are writing to endorse Mary Peltola for Alaska. We know Mary in Alaska, she raised 7 children with her  husband Buzzy. She learned life's lessons fishing in Kuskokwin where she grew up, attending fish camp. When she grew up, Alaska was a place of abundance, but now the salmon, large game, and migratory birds that use to fill freezers are difficult to come by, and groceries have crushing prices. In Alaska it costs $ 17 for a gallon of milk  throughout the state and in Indian Country. Unfortunately, politicians in D.C. are more focused on their stock portfolios than the grocery bill of every day Alaskans.

The Alaska delegation under Ted Stevens and Don Young use to stand for something, they ignored partisanship to fight for reforms in public media and disaster relief, because rural Alaska depends on them. With time that independence has faded. Mary Peltola will fight for fish, family and freedom for Alaska. She is proposing term limits for Senators because it's time for a change, for fresh leadership to shake things up in Washington. Systemic change is the best way to bring down grocery costs, ban factory trawling, lower energy & health care costs, and build new housing Alaskans can afford. Systemic change is the only way to fill homes with abundance. 

As a former judge on the Orutsaramiut Native Council tribal court, and Congressional Representative, Mary has the experience necessary to bring change to the way Washington works. Mary served in the Alaska State Legislature, Kuskikwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, and on the Bethel City Council. Peltola is the first Alaskan-Indian Member of Congress, the first woman to represent Alaska in Washington, and the first Native born Alaskan elected to the House. Mary is Yup'ik from Yukon-Kuskokwin Delta, and was born in Anchorage, Aug. 31st, 1973. Her father was a pilot and a teacher, and her mother was from Kwethluk. In 2004, Peltola fought No Child Left Behind rules that would hinder the administrative practice of testing in Western Alaskan schools in the native Yupik language. Peltola authored a law to exempt school teachers from jury duty if they work at under performing schools. The hymns and prayers of every day Alaskans have reached ears in Congress, and it is time to send a message to Washington. When you go to the ballot box on November 3rd, don't just send them a message, send them a Senator with a vote for Mary Peltola.  

Chris Pappas for New Hampshire

This week in Washington we are writing to endorse Chris Pappas for United States Senate from the Granite State of New Hampshire. Chris is a proud product of Manchester public schools and a small business owner. He knows what it is to struggle and the responsibility of signing the front of a check. He ran his family's restaurant and grew up to win election to the United States Congress from the state of New Hampshire and knows the meaning of service. In addition to serving in Congress, Chris served 3 terms on New Hampshire's Executive Council, fighting to expand Medicaid so that no American knows what it is to go without health care. While on the Executive Council, Pappas worked to invest in renewable energy like solar, wind, geothermal & hydroelectric power. Chris worked to protect and fund Planned Parenthood because he believes in a women's right to choose, contraception, family planning, and women's health care.

Since 2018, Chris has held one of the most competitive Congressional seats in the country by focusing on delivering results for Granite Staters. In Congress, Chris has taken on the tough fights: pushing tax cuts for working families and small businesses, cracking down on predatory companies that target veterans and fighting polluters of our clean water and our environment. Pappas has stood with the people and against the Big Pharmaceutical companies, working to lower drug prices, because no Senior Citizen and no American should have to choose between groceries and filling prescriptions. Chris is a pragmatic problem solver putting people first and never backs down from a fight. Pappas is a descendent of Greek immigrants. The birthplace of Democracy, first Greece gave us Aristotle and Socrates, then they gave us Athens and the Parthenon, now they gave us Chris Pappas.

Chris Pappas attended public schools in Manchester before graduating college from Harvard University. Chris made history as the first openly gay Congressman to represent New Hampshire in Congress. In Washington, Chris is known as someone who brings people together and does what it takes to make a difference. In the Senate, he'll keep standing up to political extremists and the special interests that are threatening our Democracy, our economy and our way of life. Chris lives in Manchester with his husband Vann. He enjoys running, playing competitive board games and spending time with their nieces, nephews, and extended family. Pappas defeated ten other Democrats in his quest for the Democratic Nomination for United States Senate from New Hampshire. Adam Hamilton for Kansas

Today, we are writing to endorse Adam Hamilton for United States Senate. An American minister, he is Senior Pastor at Resurrection, a United Methodist Church in Kansas City. Raised in Prairie Village, Kansas, he founded the church in a small chapel in Leawood, Kansas, the church grew to become the largest Methodist congregation in the United States with a weekly attendance of 25,000 souls across nine locations, with online and televised services. He was appointed to the President's Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships by Barack Obama in 2016. Hamilton has written 30 books on Christianity, biblical interpretation, contemporary personal and social issues. Acccording to Abingdon Press, his works have sold more than one million copies. The pastor's video instructions are used in Sunday School classes across the country.

Hamilton has previously registered as a Republican, and as a Democrat. He does not fit easily into an ideological box, and is running as a Democrat. The Reverend is seen in many circles as a centrist. The Pastor has pledged to protect health care, protecting the pathbreaking and critical expansion of Obamacare to 23 million Americans. Hamilton will listen to Kansans and lower costs at the grocery store, and at the pump, because he believes we are better when we work together. He is a fifth-generation Kansan, his family came to Dickinson County 147 years ago and helped build the town of Hope. The Rev. is married to his high school sweetheart, they celebrated their 44th anniversary in June, he has two daughters, a granddaughter, and two dogs. The Pastor's Resurrection Congregation is the largest source of donated food in Kansas, and the areas largest  sponsor of blood drives. Resurrection gave away thousands of beds to working class families in the City, while investing millions in low-income elementary schools in the area. Many answer the call but there are few who will be chosen. 

Tarrifs, foreign wars, and erratic leadership have made basic necessities like groceries, medical care and gas more expensive. Hamilton will provide leadership that listens to farmers, ranchers and small business owners who are struggling with rising costs for fuel and soaring health care costs. He will provide common sense solutions to everyday problems, rekindling faith in the American Dream, by centering our politics on decency and our shared humanity, becuse we are better when we work together. If elected, Hamilton will care for our Senior Citizens, being brushed aside by Big Pharma, that is raising our prescription drug prices. He will build housing, increasing supply to lower costs through competition for Kansans being crushed by the housing market. Hamilton will stand up to Iowa Beef Packers & Conagra, providing humane working conditions and benefits that match the best values of the United States. Rev. Hamilton will stand for the Faster Labor Contracts Act, to speed first contract negotiations, 10 days after workers vote to unionize. Peggy Flanagan for Minnesota

Today, we are writing to endorse Peggy Flanagan for Minnesota, a member of the Ojibwe, (Chippewa) Tribe. If elected, she would become the first Native American woman ever elected to the United States Senate. A proud member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor, DFL party, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. Patty served since 2019 as the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and grew up in St. Louis Park, an inner-ring suburb of Minneapolis, serving on the Public School Board from 2005 to 2009. She is the first woman of color elected to statewide office in Minnesota. A progressive, Patty advocates for Medicare for All, abolishing and replacing ICE and universal child care.

Peggy comes from a working class family growing up in a single-parent household, relying on public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, child care aid and a Section 8 housing voucher. She is Irish, Native American, and grew up an Ojibwe activist. After graduation, she attended the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in child psychology with a minor in American Indian studies. While in college, she worked on U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone's campaign, going on to work for Camp Wellstone where she trained organizers, activists and candidates, preparing the next generation of DFL leadership, equipping them with the skills necessary to run and win Democratic campaigns. In 2014, she took a position with Children's Defense Fund Minnesota, fighting for the rights of children, working on the succesful campaign to raise the Minnesota minimum wage.

During her tenure as Lieutenant Governor, Flanagan worked on paid family and medical leave, free school breakfast, low cost lunch programs, the Minnessota child tax credit, housing and child care. She chaired the Minnesota Inter-agency Council on Homelessness and worked on housing stability initiatives. Flanagan supports universal health care through Medicare for All, championing an expansion to cover dental, hearing and vision coverage. She supports tough laws on insurance companies, so that every American has access to affordable health care. Patty will fight for increased maternal coverage for formula, baby food, and diapers, equipping new mothers with all the tools needed to raise healthy infants. As a legislator, Flanagan fought for employer provided child care and state sponsored assistance, in her campaign she's supported universal child care and a $ 17 minimum wage. She supports gender-affirming care for youth and adults, while pushing for full rights for the LGBTQ Community. Flanagan is a wife, a mother, Catholic, lives in St. Louis Park and attends Church of the Ascension in North Minneapolis. On Nov. 3rd, cast a vote for the DFL and elect Peggy Flanagan, the first Native American Women to serve in the United States Senate.       

  

Angie Nixon for Florida

Today, we endorse Angie Nixon for United States Senate. A State Representative, Angie is a union organizer, and mother, born and raised in Jacksonville, who has spent her career fighting for hard-working Floridians. Throughout her service, Angie has; expanded child care, taken on price gouging by corporations, including major grocery chains like Kroger & Albertson's in the State Legislature, led the fight aganist the Governor's partisan and unjust voting map, jeopardizing the civil rights of hard working Americans through a sit-in, a civil rights protest. She watched her single mom work two jobs to put her through school and lost her cousin to gun violence on the streets of Jacksonville. Her lived experience makes her imminently qualified to serve the State of Florida in the United States Senate.  

Angie's critical and pathbreaking leadership includes service as the Executive Director of Florida for All, a statewide coalition, registering thousands of new voters, protecting civil rights while marshalling resources for campaigns and issue based organizations across Florida. At her home in Jacksonville, she runs a small business, a book store, as a Senator she will equip entrepreneurs, new and old with the resources necessary for incubating new ideas, creating jobs and supporting American enterprise, so that the next generation can create a nation as prosperous as that of our parents. Rep. Nixon's bookstore is also a community hub, that focuses on bringing healthy food and educational opportunities to local families. Angie is the founder of an outdoor market, empowering other small businesses to sell healthy food, connecting residents to local resources. In addition, Angie is an author of a One Spark award winning comic book that promotes literacy across the country.    

Angie is not just an advocate for civil rights, she's lived it. As a child in elementary school, she attended Stanton College Preparatory School, getting bused across Jacksonville because her neighborhood didn't have adequate resources. Florida, can do more than tread water to survive, the State can thrive. Whoever you talk to in America, you find that paychecks can't keep up with rising prices. Since the pandemic, household expenses have climbed to a third of where they were before, while wages have remained the same. This isn't inevitable. Angie will fight for reform through; Medicare for all, free child care, free paid family and sick leave, a national rent freeze & a moratorium on evictions and a universal jobs program with inflation-adjusted wages. Angie organized as the Florida State Field Director for the Service Employees International Union, SEIU, promoting civil and voting rights. Nixon is married and the proud mother of 5 children. On November 3rd, send a Black Woman to the United Senate and expand the Congressional Black Caucus for Freedom's Cause.   

Daniel Osborn for Nebraska

Today, we endorse Daniel Osborn for United States Senate from the great state of Nebraska. Dan's mother was a tailor and his father worked for Union Pacific, he is a graduate of Roncalli Catholic High School. Osborn is no stranger to public service, as a youth he raised his right hand and took an oath to defend the United States Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic, joining the United States Navy. He served as an SK, storekeeper, aboard the USS Constellation from 1994-1998. After serving our country, he found work at Kellogg's as an industrial mechanic, fixing factory machines. While there, he became President of Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union - Local 50G. He lead the strike at the Omaha plant for 77 days in 2021, defeating efforts to cut benefits, keeping the factory open. Dan was fired by Kellogg's for his union activities.

Dan is married with 3 children and is an Independent. He has authored the Nebraska Fairness Plan, to reflect the priorities he will carry to Washington on behalf of hard-working Nebraskans, written for the people who punch a clock and wonder why Washington works for the powerful, but not for the people. As a United States Senator, Osborn will champion reform to assure the integrity of the Senate. He will overturn Citizens United, the decision by the Supreme Court allowing corporations and outside groups to spend unlimited amounts of money in elections by passing a Constitutional Amendment to get dark money out of politics. Dan is a supporter of campaign finance reform and banning congressional stock trading. Osborn is a strong supporter of the HONEST Act, S. 1498 that would ban buying and selling stocks by Members of Congress and Senators, requiring members to fully divest stocks & bonds at the start of their terms. 

Osborn will vote for the DISCLOSE Act, to shine a light on the source of money in political campaigns, so that 501(c)(4) organizations disclose expenditures over $10,000 to the Federal Elections Commission. Dan will close dark money loopholes, that allow powerful people to anonymously spend unlimited amounts of money in elections. Politicians are bought and paid for by corporations like Big Pharma, that bankroll their campaigns, selling influence, a breathe of fresh air, Osborn has pledged that he will not accept corporate PAC money. Members of Congress and Senators often trade on their influence as lobbyists after serving in elected office. Dan will close the political revolving door by extending the amount of time Representatives have to wait before becoming advocates. Dan Osborn supports creating an independent redistricting commission that will draw fair districts, red and blue, so that voters choose their politicians, not politicians choosing their voters. Of the 435 seats in Congress, 390 or 90% are decided before their is an election and go uncontested, drawing new districts will introduce competition and re-energize our Democracy so the American people have a choice when casting ballots. On Election Day vote for the sailor that has made us all proud to call ourselves Americans. On November 3rd stand with Dan Osborn for Nebraska.
